Wins for Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago in CFU Women’s U-20 Championships

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (CFU) – Group B of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Under 20 Finals kicked off with excitement here, as defending champions Jamaica defeated St. Vincent and the Grenadines 4-1 and Trinidad and Tobago beat Curaçao by the same 4-1 score-line.The Vincentians began their match against Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz as the aggressors, as they sought a goal. But it was Jamaica who, against the run of play, opened the scoring with a goal from Khadija Shaw in the 15th minute.
St. Vincent then equalised from an own goal by Konya Plummer in the 29th minute.At the stroke of halftime, Shaw broke away, one-on-one with the Vincentian keeper, only to be taken down in the box for a penalty. Goalie Annesta Richards was ejected after the challenge, and Shaw slotted home the penalty, ending the first half 2-1 in favour of Jamaica.The second half saw Jamaica, having the player advantage and displaying great levels of ball movement, dominate possession.Shaw recorded a hat-trick in the 52nd minute, and the final goal of the match came in the 70th, as Rasha Roberts scored from close range, making it 4 – 1.

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO RECORD VICTORY

Last edition’s runner-up Trinidad and Tobago had to come from behind to defeat an organised Curaçao team in the day’s 6:30 pm kickoff.

Curaçao got off the mark in the 2nd minute when Ketsiah Wahr fired a long-range shot that caught Trinidad’s goalie Rebecca Almandoz off her line. Curaçao would then defend throughout first half, frustrating the Soca Princesses.

Trinidad found the equaliser in the 37th minute courtesy Tsaianne Leander, and the first half ended 1-1.
The second half was a different story as the Trinidad and Tobago women displayed cool heads and carved out three goals in just five minutes. Leander scored in the 48th, Maya Matouk in the 52nd and Kedia Johnson rounded up things in the 53rd, ending the match 4-1.
